Jump 7: Mahou Sensei Negima! - Class 1: The Teacher Is A Child And The Assistant A Teenager!?

Well this hasn’t been what I expected at the start.

Tell me about it.  Everyone just thinks I’m joking when I ask them to die for me.

That’s because people don’t like losing their lives Alice.

I-I’m having a nice time.  I joined the Library Expedition Club.  The girls there are nice.

I guess I made friends with the ghost in our class since nobody else can see her.  And the vampire’s pretty cool too.  I’m gonna pester her until she takes me on as a disciple.

Can I continue with the recap of what’s happened so far?

Sorry.

Whatever.

Anyway I had to begin by finding a train to the academy.  Not being able to just, literally surf the Internet made me appreciate the powers I once had.  On the train I had my first encounter with the teacher I’d be assisting.  While I was given odd looks and stares of confusion, the students on the train were absolutely fawning over him.  Then he sneezed and all the girls’ skirts were flipped up by a magically conjured up wind. Naturally I was called a pervert for what I saw.  Thankfully we arrived at the academy before the students could start verbally assaulting me with their accusations.

The run to the headmaster’s office was pretty crazy.  Students were rollerblading, skateboarding, riding trollies, biking, running and one was even driving a motorcycle.  I barely knew where I was going, but figured that the only other male I saw had to be someone important if for no other reason than the giant staff he was carrying around.  So I followed him.  He ran up to a girl with twin tails and said something to her that prompted her to get a little violent with him.  “Poor kid” is what I thought as I moved on ahead of them to find the headmaster’s office.  With some time before Negi would arrive to greet the headmaster I decided it would be prudent to see what I’d have to do to pay off my debt to the headmaster.  He jokingly said I could marry his granddaughter and started to laugh at me when I gave a flustered response about how we should get to know each other and things of the like.  My tasks had the potential to change at a moment’s notice, but generally would consist of maintenance work like mopping, moving things and light gardening.  I’d also help out the music club because of my talents regarding the trumpet.

When the kid arrived with the two girls that stalled him I was a bit surprised not only to find that the girl with the twin tails was now wearing a P.E. uniform instead of her normal one, but shortly afterwards Alice and Karen came to the headmaster’s office too.  After a brief introduction between all of us who hadn’t formally met yet I was told to stay in Alice and Karen’s room while Negi was to stay with Asuna (girl with twin tails) and Konoka (the headmaster’s granddaughter).  Asuna and Alice expressed their disdain at the idea, but didn’t really try to fight the headmaster’s word.  As Negi and I walked to the classroom we introduced ourselves once again.  We gave brief “glad to be working with you” before making it to the door to the classroom.  We looked over the roster that was given to us and I noticed some annotations made by whoever had it last.  Two that stood out were “Ninja”, and “In case of emergencies call the engineering department”.  I took note of the first one and didn’t understand the last one.

Negi seemed really nervous with the daunting task of teaching 33 girls but looked like he regained his composure and confidence.  Negi walked in first, and unfortunately fell victim to a trap laid out by some of the students.  A prank for the new teacher I presume.  We both noticed the eraser, but we somehow both felt it’d be right to let it fall rather than stop it.  What we failed to notice was the trip rope.  That wasn’t the best thing to miss when trying to make a good first impression.  They all took pity on him immediately though, and I was just a background character.  When it came time to introduce ourselves as teacher and assistant only Negi was able to finish before they just swarmed him.  Maybe if I was younger they’d have paid more attention to me, but it’s no matter.  In the middle of most of the class fawning over him Asuna grabbed him and demanded to know what he did with the eraser.  It seems she noticed whatever magic Negi used to assess the trap and let it fall on his head.  The class president, Ayaka, managed to stop Asuna from assaulting Negi further, but then the two of them started fighting.  Shizuna stopped them however, and the first class was going to actually start.  Unfortunately, Negi was too short to write what he wanted on the board.  I was about to offer to do it for him when Ayaka presented him his a stool to step on.  It was quite luxurious and I don’t know where she got it from.  Negi was going to continue with the lesson, but Asuna started flinging pieces of an eraser at his head.  I stared daggers at her, but she seemed oblivious to it and kept going until Ayaka and her ended up fighting again. The bell rang shortly afterward and they calmed down.

I let Negi complain to me for a bit about how the first day went, then left to find out what my first job would be after doing my best to console him.  The headmaster explained to me that Negi was a bit of a prodigy and he came to Mahora for training.  While I still had to actually work off my debt, my main task would be to help watch over Negi and occasionally help him grow as a mage and person.  Today I just had to clean up the classroom and go to my assigned room afterwards.  I thanked the headmaster and went to the classroom.  I ran into Negi and Asuna and we entered together to find a surprise party waiting for us.  It seemed the class hadn’t forgotten about me as it was a welcome party for Negi and myself.  I enjoyed the festivities and even got some time to talk to Alice and Karen.

You’re not that good at conversation.

Th-that’s not true Alice, you were just as engaged as I was.

As if!

I got to talk with the other students as well and hopefully made a good impression.

Even though Negi was the focus everyone talked a little about you too. Some of the class thinks you look pretty attractive.

I don’t think you’ll surpass the kid’s popularity with the class though.

I don’t really plan on trying to.

After the party I went to Alice and Karen’s room and Alice gave me the rundown on what I could and couldn’t do.  Karen just watched on and occasionally calmed Alice down when she started going too far.  I was granted the couch and wasted no time in setting up my things in a way that didn’t get in the way of things. Then I went to sleep.
