This world
is refreshingly normal…When seeking out normal locations without PMCs sending
their goons after me of course. This
caused problems for me. Many, many problems.
I could hardly go out for food without having to check for snipers. But let’s start at the beginning.
I ended up
in Abkhazia, during a time of revolution and strife for the people. Desperado caught wind of my arrival quickly,
and sent forces after me. Their movement
alerted other PMCs and it was a nightmare leaving the country. All the cyborgs gave me ample time to grow accustomed
to my newfound cyborg focused CQC prowess.
The other nice thing about it is that I was able to not only enter the
computer portions of enemy cyborgs, but actually shut their systems down, mess
with their motor control and combined with my psychic abilities I could convert
the more simple minded ones to my side.
It was some good combat practice after the break I took.
Then I met
Raiden. While he was wary of me,
Desperado was his target, so I got to have a casual conversation with him
before helping him fight off some Desperado cyborgs. We parted ways after that, and I was glad to have
met a person that didn’t immediately try and kill me on site. Navigating Abkhazia was a pain in the ass,
but I eventually managed to escape to the Internet via someone’s
smartphone. I would have just stayed on
the net but I wasn’t purely a Navi anymore, so I still needed to eat. I tricked some random teenager into bringing
his phone to an isolated area so I could exit cyberspace. Before he could snap a picture of me I
drained the power from his phone and then told him to scram before I fried his
brain. The threat worked and he bolted
away.
I didn’t
really think things through however as I ended up in Denver, Colorado. A city where the police are not only cyborgs,
but affiliated with Desperado. I was
assaulted by officers at every opportunity, and even had to use hostages to
escape without killing anybody. I really
started to hate my judgement. However, I
ended up staying in the city long enough to meet up with Raiden again. He apparently was going rouge to wage a
personal war against World Marshall and Desperado. I didn’t have much better to do so I stalked
him for a bit before revealing myself.
He was surprised that I managed to survive here, given that I wasn’t a
cyborg and all. I offered my help with
the stipulation being that he try to get his PMC to hire me. I felt some sort
of protection would be better than trying to evade the world on my own. While he made no promises he agreed to try, so
I did my best to help him.
Raiden was
impressed by my skills in combat, and quickly understood how I was able to
survive being targeted by multiple major PMCs.
I unfortunately had to bear witness to Raiden’s breakdown and unleashing
his alternate persona, “Jack the Ripper”.
He managed to keep his senses though, so I didn’t have to worry about a
crazy Raiden suddenly attacking me, and I watched as he defeated Monsoon. We continued to assault World Marshall and
eventually encountered the next of Desperado’s Winds of Destruction, Sundowner. I let Raiden handle the fight with Sundowner
alone, as he seemed to have a personal grudge against the group. When Sundowner made Raiden fall off the roof
I made my move and took over some sort of robot that could fly and gave Raiden
a lift back up to deliver the final blow to Sundowner.
Raiden got
shot down a little after defeating Sundowner trying to get to Doktor’s
helicopter. I wouldn’t meet up with him
again until he had his duel with Jetstream Sam.
After coming out victorious I accompanied Raiden and Blade Wolf to
Solis, where an experimental aircraft was the ticket to arriving at the Shabhazabad
Air Base with enough time to stop whatever Desperado was planning. After going through the process of beating
more cyborg soldiers we lost contact with Blade Wolf and upon finding him, had
to deal with Metal Gear EXCELSUS. The
pilot was Senator Armstrong. After explaining
some of his plan he began to use EXCELSUS to attack us. Together Raiden and I took down the giant
mech and I let him have his showdown with Armstrong.
After
witnessing a battle grounded in ideals just as much as reality I learned that
Armstrong may have had more of an impact on Raiden then I thought. He never went back to Maverick, his former
PMC, but they found that I would be a suitable replacement while Raiden fought
his own war. I finished my ten years as
an unofficial member of Maverick since they didn’t want other PMCs attacking
them just to get at me. While living in
the shadows wasn’t an ideal way to live, the people at Maverick were nice. I even taught the kids that Raiden had saved
some things to help them if they ever got in a fight. Nothing too dangerous, just some hand to hand
combat. With that, it’s time to move on. I wonder how Alice is doing, maybe I should take her with me next time.
