Jump 3: MMBN - The Jump: Pre-Battle Network

The year was 200X.  Advancements in regards to the Internet were simply astounding.  I found myself in an unfamiliar area, with weird pathways and strange beings, with emblems on their chests.  I looked down to discover that I myself, also had one of these emblems.  It seemed to embody all that I was, and what I had the potential to be, all while being compact and impactful.  As I wandered around, occasionally getting annoyed at the dead ends, I eventually happened upon my first set of viruses.  Three mettaurs, not even the more advanced kind.  I was shocked at first when my arc lightning simply bounced off their helmets when they retreated inside of them, but soon realized that this impenetrable defense was all that the weak things had going for them.  The second I baited them out to attack I made short work of them.  Upon their deletion, I received a sum of 300 Zenny.  I figured this was the currency and wondered why these things had some, but brushed those thoughts aside.

I approached one of the denizens of this world and feigned amnesia to uncover some information.  He and I were apparently beings called Internet Navigators, or NetNavis for short.  I was in the Netfrica area of the Internet currently and I should probably be looking for my “Operator”.  Humans here used NetNavis to do all sorts of things and often were very close with their Navis.  The random Navi assumed my operator would be worried about me and offered to help me find them.  After a bit of convincing, I managed to assuage his concerns and assure him that I’d remember soon and find my operator.  I knew the truth however.  I was on my own.  Not wanting to waste any more time I figured I should be where the action was, so to speak.

In the course of a week I managed to figure out the extent of my new abilities and how much of my old remained.  My gauntlets were a built-in part of me, allowing me to channel my electrical powers in melee attacks.  I had the element of electricity as my default fittingly enough after my escapades in the Infamous world.  Unfortunately that made any wood based attack deal twice the damage to me.  It was a rough time in the Netfrica net.  Lots of viruses that utilized the element in on way of another.  My pokémon came as sentient portions of my new form, and were integrated into my Navi form.  They generally stayed asleep as I used their abilities to assist me in combat.  Better melee combat from Bruce, a flamethrower charge shot from Lizardon, airshoes from Flyer, faster data analyzing from Psychic, a permanent boost to elec chips from Sgt. Shock, and the ability to walk normally on ice from Skulkraken.  I received generous amounts of Zenny and curious things called “Battle Chips” from the virus encounters.  Upon further investigation I found that they were generally used by operators to aid their Navi in combat.  Without an operator I was unable to utilize the chips I collected, but some rumors spoke of a way for a Navi to use chips without their operator.  They were few and far between however, so I had no such luck in uncovering the secret if there was one.

Finding that I could deal with unsavory characters in a much better way than I could back in Los Angeles, and made my way to the UnderNet.  Since getting Zenny was no problem and I was beyond the scope of the average Navi making a name for myself wasn’t too hard.  Spending the better part of a month I made connections, stuck fear into those without power, and even became rank 75.  I could have done more, but I had a purpose to fulfill.  An organization called World Three, or WWW had begun making moves in Electopia.  This was what I had been waiting for.  Making my way out of the UnderNet to the Electopian side of the net was a tricky thing to pull off, but I managed it somehow.  Having grown accustomed to the viruses in the UnderNet, I was never in any danger once I surfaced back to civilized territory.
