Jump 3 MMBN: The Jump - Network Transmission

It’s only been a month and trouble has already begun brewing.  It feels like WWW and the Life Virus were just defeated yesterday.  But now there have been reports of a “Zero Virus” infecting Navis and causing their functions to encounter problems.  As I was investigating the net I was met with a sight to behold.

The area of the net I planned on searching had been set ablaze.  Encountering MegaMan who was looking for Roll, we teamed up to get through the fire together.  The culprit was FireMan, a Navi we both thought had decided to lay low after WWW’s defeat.  After we took him down, Mr. Match jacked him out, and revealed that he lost control of FireMan after giving him a vaccine for the Zero Virus.  Lan’s father quickly revealed that it must have been fake, as no real vaccine had been created yet.

With the source of the fire’s taken out, I parted ways with MegaMan and Lan to do my own reconnaissance.  I might as well stayed with them since we both ended up finding the Navi responsible for dealing out the fake vaccines, StarMan.  Before we could confront him, he ran away.  We would have gone after him, but Dex needed help subduing a rampaging GutsMan.  It had seemed like the fake vaccine had spread like wildfire.  I offered MegaMan my assistance in beating GutsMan without deleting him and together we easily put an end to his rampage.  GutsMan was put back in Dex’s PET until a cure could be made.

With many Navis being affected with the Zero Virus there were four different incidents to deal with that day.  NeddleMan, IceMan, Brightman and QuickMan had all been infected by the fake vaccine.  I accompanied MegaMan and Lan as they went to deal with the problems being caused.  Together we made short work of the issues and helped the infected Navis be brought back to their operators.  Lan and MegaMan retired for the night, and I took it upon myself to do some more investigating.

Once morning arrived I went to let them know about my findings, but got to Lan’s PC after they had left.  Having nothing else to do I waited for them to return.  Once they were back they let me know that they had encountered ColorMan and ElecMan, but gotten no information of their own.  To top it off, MegaMan had been infected with the virus as well.  Since the effects hadn’t manifested yet I suggested we search the Zero Account while MegaMan was still himself.

The Zero Account was an abandoned WWW sector that we discovered was used to make the Zero Virus.  We had to fight SwordMan, GravityMan, StarMan and even an infected ProtoMan while we searched for information.  Encountering a mysterious data source file, we decided to send it to Lan’s father and received a cure for the Virus as well.  The timing couldn’t have been better too.  Soon after, we found ourselves face to face with the source of the Zero Virus, Zero.

Facing off against the source of the virus wasn’t what I expected when we came to the Zero Account, but it worked in our favor.  Zero revealed that while he was initially made as a virus, he had collected so much information thanks to the Zero Virus that he had evolved into a being closer to a NetNavi.  While we didn’t want to end his life after he found a sentience that could potentially be reasoned with, we had no choice but to fight.  Once he was down, and the last blow needed to be delivered, ProtoMan arrived to do it himself, and spare MegaMan the burden.  Luckily we found that data file earlier, and Lan’s father was able to make a program that would turn Zero into a normal Navi.

The joy wasn’t meant to last as the true mastermind behind this revealed himself.  The “Professor”, a follower of Dr. Wily’s that ended up sharing his vision.  Using the profits from the fake vaccine he planned on reviving the Life Virus.  With this knowledge now known to the world, panic had spread.  Even Lan was nervous, and questioned if he and MegaMan had the power to beat the Life Virus without Hub.BAT.  Dex came through and got Lan motivated to take action once more.  We set off for the Undernet, but got caught in an auto-jump trap and ended up I SciLab.

Realizing that we needed an AuthCode to get past the trap we searched the Legendary WWW area for information and encountered PharaohMan.  He was guarding part of the data we needed, so MegaMan and I fought him for it.

The next place we searched was the now demolished WWW metroline.  The data we sought was under the protection of ShadowMan.  He was surprised to see MegaMan and I working together but he had a job to do nevertheless.  The fight wasn’t too bad, although his clones almost gave us quite the challenge.

After getting the data to bypass the trap we headed to the UnderNet after MegaMan and ProtoMan had a battle to determine if Lan and MegaMan were ready.  They beat him and we were clear to go.   Knowing the place well, I saved us a lot of time looking and figured out where we needed to be.  Unfortunately there was a firewall.  It took more power that I would have thought to break it, but we did in the end.  Unfortunately it brought out a ton of viruses.  We couldn’t take them all on and still get to the Life Virus.

Luckily we weren’t alone.  In our time of need our friends came to take on the viruses so we could go on ahead.  I was touched that they not only cared about Lan and MegaMan, but me as well.  I remembered that I probably wasn’t supposed to be the star of the show and stayed behind to hold off the viruses.  I had faith in Lan and MegaMan.  It wasn’t misplaced either as the two of them came back victorious.

Zero helped the officials capture the Professor before he could escape and everything went back to normal.  Everyone congratulated Lan and MegaMan on a job well done, and went back to their daily live soon after.  Zero was allowed to explore the net under supervision and I was even able to battle him one on one a few times.  I considered taking one of his abilities, but figured I could learn to do most of what he could with enough practice.  Besides battling with the other Navis for fun there’s nothing else to report.  We’ve managed to protect the net society yet again.
