Jump 2: Infamous - The Jump

I opened my eyes to the bright rays of the morning sun, an unfamiliar ceiling greeting me.  My backpack was situated in a chair, another bag, one I didn’t recognize, was sitting on the desk.  I sat up and looked around, finding the furnishings to be sparse, but adequate.  I suddenly realized that I felt a tingling sensation all over my body that had been steadily increasing in potency.  I stretched out my hand and an arc of electricity flew out and struck the wooden table, leaving a mark that wouldn’t be coming off in the next ten years.

“So this is my power?”, I asked aloud to no one in particular.  The sensation was still there, so I figured I’d make the most of the first time feeling and see what else I could do.  Getting dressed, I took out my old Pokegear and turned it on. Or at least tried to.  It was dead.  Focusing on my hand I fed it just enough electricity to get fully charged without short circuiting.  Seemed I was a natural at control.

After letting all of my pokémon friends out one at a time (except for Skulkraken and Lizardon, too big) I left to go explore my little area of Los Angeles.  Passing by some shady dealings I came across something I thought was unusual.  A group of conduits were gearing for a fight.  I saw smoke coming from the hands of two of them, and a blue glow coming from the hands of the other.  Before I could blink the two smoke conduits shot fire balls at the ice one.  He effortlessly dodged the point blank shots and placed both hands on the faces of the other conduits.  They froze on the spot. He sighed and began to walk away when he noticed me.

Somehow, he had a feeling that I was like him.  A conduit, and chucked an ice grenade at me.  Reacting with pure instinct I shot it in the air with an arc of electricity.  It exploded on contact, but I wasn’t out of the woods yet. He had closed the distance between us and was about to pull the same thing on me that he did to the other two conduits.  I countered by blocking his ice hand with an electric one of my own.  I used my other hand to punch him in the stomach, causing him to back off.

“What the hell’s your problem?” I asked him, slightly drained from countering his cryokinesis so suddenly.

“Just looking for a bit of fun to cool off.  I thought you might be able to help me to chill out for a bit.” He responded with a sly smirk.  “You’re not like the rest of these plebs.  I think you and I could have an ice fight.”

“Did you just make like three ice puns?”

“I don’t snow what you’re talking about.  But shall we continue?  I’m just itching to see you become a frozen charge-scicle.”

Before the fight could continue, the sound of cop cars brought us both to attention.

“Guess I’ll have to let you go for now.  Don’t worry, I’ll find you again so we can finish this.”

And then he ran off.  I walked away before the cops found the frozen conduits and went home, charging a little from stoplights and the like.  That first meeting was one of many with who I would come to know as Jack Frost.  That guy just wouldn’t let me go too long without a fight.  The nice thing was that I learned how to control my powers faster than if I had just trained.  My powers tended to leak even though I learned how to shut it off at will, but it wasn’t a problem since the city is filled with numerous sources of power, and Sgt. Shock could charge me if I really needed it.

I was able to let all of my Pokémon out without them being discovered over the course of the ten years, and they even helped me hone my abilities.  The military wasn’t too big of an issue since I laid low, got an easy job charging machinery and it paid well enough.  Providing the entire building with power also helps avoid paying some bills.  Crime, specifically conduit related was on the rise for my time there, but I hope that my actions the past ten years helped curb criminal activities.

But alas, our time here has come to an end.  I had one last battle with Jack to say goodbye.  We both went all out, letting the emotions from the past ten years fuel us as we fought for hours.  In the end I managed to barely beat him.  I told him that through it all I had fun for the most part, and that I owed him for helping me develop my powers further than I could have on my own.  He told me to get buried in hail, but I saw the smile on his face before he passed out.  Now that my affairs are settled, I must move on.  The next world awaits.
